Clinically Proven Results: Two University of Adelaide Trials Show Activ Daily Transforms the Gut–Skin Microbiome
For years, the pet supplement market has been full of bold claims—but very little real science. Activ Dog Health set out to change that.
To prove Activ Daily works, we conducted two full clinical trials with the University of Adelaide over a 3 year period, using the most advanced microbiome technology available. No other pet supplement company has gone to these lengths.
The results are now published in peer-reviewed scientific journals—and they confirm what dog owners have been seeing for years.
Trial 1: Skin Microbiome Clinical Study (Veterinary Dermatology, 2025)
Researchers studied twelve Golden Retrievers living in the same controlled environment for 90 days to eliminate outside variables. Each dog received a daily Activ Daily chew containing our four species-specific ADH™ strains.
Full-length PacBio HiFi sequencing—the gold standard in microbiome science—identified over 3,800 bacterial species, offering the most detailed picture of the canine skin microbiome ever produced.
Key findings after 90 days:
- 7× increase in Lactobacillus acidophilus (ADH™-302)
- 37× increase in Dubosiella newyorkensis
- 40× increase in Roseomonas vastitus

Culture-based testing also showed a significant reduction (p = 0.02) in Staphylococcus pseudintermedius—a major cause of itching, redness and canine skin infections.

Trial 2: Gut–Skin Axis Clinical Study (Veterinary Research Communications, 2025)
The second study analysed how Activ Daily shapes both the gut microbiome and skin microbiome simultaneously—a world-first in dogs.
Using the same dogs, researchers tracked the microbiome at Day 0, Day 30 and Day 90. Advanced long-read sequencing again provided species-level accuracy.
Key findings:
- Significant shifts in gut microbiota composition (PERMANOVA p = 0.05)
- Large increases in three core beneficial species:
Lactobacillus acidophilus
Lactobacillus johnsonii
Limosilactobacillus reuteri - These same bacteria increased on the skin, showing a direct gut–skin connection
- Positive correlations between gut and skin bacteria confirmed that Activ Daily improves health systemically, not just locally
